What the job involves

A tree beside a house, garage or boundary often needs to come down in sections. The team assesses its lean, condition and the space available, then plans the cuts and rigging. Where there is enough clear ground, a straight fell may be suitable.

Felling or dismantling

Straight felling brings the tree down in one piece into a clear landing area. Dismantling removes it in sections. Buildings, roads, other trees and the condition of the trunk can rule out a straight fell even when the garden looks large enough.

How the timber comes down

On a confined site, ropes and lowering equipment can control individual sections. The tree must be suitable for the proposed climbing and rigging loads; a weakened tree may require another access method. This is assessed before the team starts cutting.

After the tree is down

Branches can be chipped and trunk wood cut for transport or left as agreed logs. The remaining stump is a separate job. A clear quotation distinguishes taking the tree down from removing timber, grinding the stump and preparing the ground.
